Daniel ubruptly stops and turns to face Isabelle. With a gaze of stone, he says "Yes, your highness. I know how your dainty feet are not built for such a trek as this".
When he sees the look of shock on her face, his resolve crumbles. "I'm sorry Isabelle. That was an evil thing for me to say. It's just that on my own I would have been able to leave quietly without anyone caring except my mother. But with you along, the whole kingdom will be searching for us. If we are caught, I will most likely by executed for kidnapping."
These thoughts never registered in Isabelle's mind. While trying to help out a friend, she has become a burden. Her eyes grow moist as she realizes the mess she has caused.
Not knowing the reason of her tears, Daniel is distraught that he caused her pain. "Truly, I did not mean those vile words. I have always cherished the time we have together. If today be my last day in this land, then I will die happy"
"No you won't!" she cries. "I could never go on living without you. Why do you think I came along? Let us hurry. You are right, my father will send every knight at his disposal to track us down. The farther away we are, the better chance we have to escape the web of searchers."
With that she grabs his hand and pulls him down the path. They use the light of the stars to guide their steps until the sun appears upon the horizon.
