Grayson Braxton wasn’t just popular—he was poised to become a legend.

At 23, the senior pitcher was on the brink of a mythic status at Westfield University. Stat sheets bowed beneath his name, and opposing batters braced themselves whenever he wound up to pitch. Coaches heralded him as the league's future, while girls were already dialing his number late into the night. Professors extended special leeway to him, and the rest of the campus maintained their distance, awed by his presence.

He had it all: the physique, the charisma, the allure—a ticket to the majors that seemed all but guaranteed.

Yet, beneath the surface, something was beginning to gnaw at him, hinting at future realizations.

It all began in the most unexpected place: Psychology 210 – Identity and the Self. Initially, it seemed like just a filler class to bolster his GPA between doubleheaders and weight training. He barely paid attention—until one day, the professor posed a question destined to haunt him:

“How much of who you are is tied to what people see?”

The class was tasked with a week-long reflection: write down how others perceive you. Then, imagine living in someone else’s skin. What would change? What would remain the same? What would you lose if the mirror didn’t align with your true self?

At first, Grayson attempted to brush it off. But the question lodged itself in his mind, refusing to budge.

He had always been branded as the baseball guy, the golden boy. But what if he could step outside that identity?

What if the girl who aced her classes and donned oversized hoodies suddenly became the new campus “It Girl”?

What if his scrawny backup catcher had to rise to the occasion as the new team coach?

Would they still embody their true selves? Would others treat them the same way?

His initial curiosity evolved into a bubbling obsession.

Grayson began observing people more keenly, dissecting their personas not in a creepy way—at least not yet—but as if they were chess pieces, each one waiting to be rearranged.

He didn’t know how it would unfold just yet.

But he felt an undeniable resolve: he was determined to discover a way to turn the world inside out. Especially now that he had found that intriguing “thing”. The future, full of possibilities and transformations, loomed just ahead.
