Trisha hands back the Travel Essence.
"Let's see what your friend has to say before I make any decisions about what essences to take," she said
"I will return later," Frederica said "If you need anything, ask one of the other priests or priestesses, and they can provide for you."
Frederica leaves the temple, and walks down the streets of Vitesse. Known as the City of Flowers, the city was beautiful, with various essence abilities used to integrate flowers into the architecture of the city. Above, essence users with flight powers, personal float disks or merely flying on familiars passed overhead. Few looked up, as adventurers and other high rankers were a common sight in the city. There were six ranks, or levels of power. Normal rank is what everyone starts at. This is when people have less than four essences. Once four essences are gained a person becomes Iron Rank. They cannot achieve Bronze Rank until they have awakened all twenty of their Essence Abilities, and advanced them through one of the usual methods of advancement.
There are two main methods of advancement. The easier method, and used by non-combatants, is absorbing monster cores. Each one advances an essence ability. The downside of monster cores is that you have to absorb thousands of cores to get between ranks. That might be affordable for Iron to Bronze, but affording Gold or Diamond Rank cores, assuming they were even available, would be next to impossible for anyone not earning a huge amount of money.
The second method combined three principles of advancement: Training the body and mind to learn your limits, Challenging yourself to push those limits so you can grow beyond them and Meditation to consolidate your gains and stabilize yourself at that new limit level. This was the method used by adventurers, for many of them find all the challenge they need fighting the monsters that was the main function of the Adventure Society. Adventuring was a dangerous and often deadly profession, and as such, organizations such as the Remore Academy, whose main buildings were in Vitesse, teaches those with the coin to become adventurers.
Frederica walked onto the grounds of the academy, feeling the waves of nostalgia wash over her. It had been two years since she had graduated from the academy herself. Funded by the church to become an adventurer, she had had the best training. Though she was still Iron Rank, she was confident she could achieve Bronze within the next year if she received the right contracts. It was harder for low rankers in Vitesse. The level of the monsters was too high for Iron or Bronze Rankers, so none of the teams could really act on their own without a Silver Ranker or higher with them. Once Frederica gained a more permanent team, she planned to travel to a lower magic area so that her and her team could operate alone, and push themselves without a Silver Ranker watching their every move.
She walked towards one of the dorm buildings, and pressed a rune that would signal another in the room of the person she was here to see. A voice echoed from the rune a moment later.
"Hello? Do you need something?"
"Hi Mari, I need to speak with you about something. Are you busy?" Frederica asked
"Fredi? Good to hear from you! I'll be down in a minute," The voice fell silent, and Frederica waited
