What a coincidence.

"What's that?"

Melona nearly leapt out of her skin as she whirled around to face the person who had crept up behind her.

"Drif! Gods, don't scare me like that!"

Drif was Melona's first--and only--friend at the Academy. They'd bonded over their mutual inability to have meaningful social lives and their abysmal academic performance. Drif had stuck with Melona through the ups and downs (mostly downs) of their time at the school, using her combination of ingenuity, alchemical skill, and comparative lack of restraint or ethical compunctions to make life a little easier. Drif chuckled. "Build-a-Babe?" She shook her head. "Kinda sounds like something I'd make." She screwed up her eyes in concentration as she sifted through her memories. "Pretty sure I didn't, though."

Melona nodded as Drif went back to studying the paper, making little disapproving clicks of the tongue or appreciative mutters of praise as she did. This was taking longer than she had anticipated. Normally, it only took Drif a minute to do a cursory evaluation of a potion's formula, but this seemed different.

"Anything?" asked Melona. Drif nodded, and--
