"-And they totally suck!"
While it had taken a fair bit of convincing Brooke had managed to get her sister to open up about what's been bothering her, which apparently was some new hire down at the Bean Machine.
"Why do they suck? Are they an asshole?"
"God I WISH! Mmph!"
They had moved to the kitchen and had seated themselves down at the table after grabbing some classic emotional support food, neapolitan ice cream. Brooke had made herself a small bowl consisting mainly of chocolate while Mikayla nursed the whole tub, biting into whatever flavor she so happened to spoon.
"She's like, nice, super nice! Down right pleasant!"
"... And she sucks because she's nice?"
Mikayla as angrily as she could stabbed into the multicolored bucket of sweet frozen cream with her spoon.
"Because she's TOO good! She gets everything handed to her on a platter, she's already being trained to be a shift manager, she's got a raise, and the boss compliments her every other second! If she was a jerk or something I could just tell her to shove it, but she's just so… nice!"
She took another quick bite of ice cream before continuing.
"She's always early, always willing to stay late, knows how to and will work every position in the store, and I don't think I've ever seen her not smile let alone get mad. She didn't even get pissed off dealing with Mr. Donovan!"
"That guy that complains if his cream to caffeine ratio is off at all?"
"Yeah! She handled him like he was an old friend and never got even a little bit ticked off, not then or ever. And so I'm there having to watch her soak up all the attention and awards while I'm made to look like chop liver in comparison! Ever since she's come in they have been up mine and everyone else's ass about "Proper work etiquette" and shit like that!"
"Maybe if you were nicer yourself it wouldn't be such a problem" is what Brooke wanted to say, but figured it wasn't the best time considering she was actually trying to cheer her sister up.
"That does sound like it would be pretty annoying, but is that really it? I mean, is that really all that's been bothering you so much recently?"
"That's what I said! Because she's an overachiever they expect us to do just as much work now, all while she gets praised!"
"I'm just saying, I'm sure things will calm down after a while, it's not really a reason to get down and out about as much as you have."
"I guess…"
The fire behind Mikayla's voice died out as she slouched in her seat, hugging the carton of ice cream closer to herself, more lazily eating from it now. Brooke saw her sister deflate and decided to press her a bit more.
"So what is it then? Is there still something you're not telling me?"
"..."
Mikayla eyed her big sister suspiciously, seeming to confirm one last time that this wasn't some ploy to make fun of her, but Brooke put on her warmest smile she could manage. It was awkward and maybe a bit forced, but it was a genuine attempt. With a great big sigh escaping her the ice cream hoarder sat back up straight.
"It would be one thing if she was just some goody two shoes brown-noser, I could live with that even though it's annoying as hell, I could even deal with the boss man being an ass over it, but the thing that really pushes it over the edge is that-"
