Chapter #6

A Different Effect from the Spider Bite

    by: cool Author IconMail Icon
Across the vast multiverse, certain events have many differences. Sometimes the spider bites Peter Parker, sometimes it makes someone else into a hero. So, is it really unlikely for the bite to cause a different effect?

"Now, students, over here we have our genetically enhanced spiders. Thirteen specimens are being used for medicinal research and other projects," the Oscorp scientist declared proudly to the group of primarily disinterested teenagers.

"Sir, I only see twelve spiders in there," Gwen Stacy said as she looked into the display case, getting the scientist's attention.

"Hmm, that one must be in testing at the moment," the Oscorp scientist said with a shrug before returning to the tour group to continue his spiel.

Peter couldn't help but take notes the whole time, interested in the scientific talk before the group started moving. Flash Thompson deliberately shoved Peter as he walked by, earning a laugh from Liz Allen. Cindy glared at the bullies before patting Peter on the shoulder and joining the group to talk with Gwen, leaving the nerdy teen alone to pick up his fallen pencil as a spider lowered itself from the ceiling.

"Ow!" Peter shouted as he smacked the back of his neck, crushing the spider in an instant, but its venom already entered his veins. "Crap that hurt a lot for such a little arachnid."

The spider was dead, unable to spread its altered venom to anyone else, but it had already spread into Peter's body. As it began to condense, his DNA was altered, increasing his durability at the cost of his size.

Where is Peter when the shrinking kicks in?

On the Bus: Peter isn't feeling well and heads to the bus early to relax, hoping some time away from Flash will help clear his headache. Unfortunately, all it accomplishes is leaving him alone when the venom fully kicks in. He can do nothing as he shrinks in his seat, leaving him stranded with no way down as his classmates start filing aboard. Will he be noticed?

At the Library: Later that day, Peter has a study session with several of his friends, that he's a bit late for, when he shrinks on the way to the table. When he comes to, he's now spider-sized with his friends already starting at a nearby table. Can he get their attention or even make it to the table?

At School: A few days after the bite, Peter arrived early to avoid the bullies, getting to his locker and grabbing his stuff when he shrinks in the halls. Now he'll have to traverse the giant school with only some durability. How will he manage?

At Home: Peter felt ill and went to bed early, only to wake up the next day and shrink in his bed. Luckily, this happened in his own home, so he should be able to handle it much easier than anywhere else, right?
