This choice: Have her nurturing side come out more, making her think about kids • Go Back... Nick kept a close eye on Judy after that day, all the while keeping an even closer eye on the watch by carrying it around with him everywhere. Despite her confession to him while hypnotized, Judy didn't seem any different in terms of her appearance. She was the same spry bunny that she always was and fit as a fiddle. Yet Nick couldn't deny that there was something slightly different about his partner in the littlest of ways.
It was in how she talked to people, when once she might have been headstrong and a little too forceful now she was more subdued and calmer. Not a pushover by any means, she could still give criminals a good stare down that would put the fear of god back into them. But to the ones who truly regretted their actions, she would be far more lenient with them and speak with them in the car rides back to the station. Even to their other co-workers, Judy was far less awkward around them and more relaxed. Always trying to make sure that everyone had their fair say around the office and was having a good time during their down time or at small gatherings. This even resulted in some of their other officers mentioning to Nick that she felt more like a den mother than usual.
Privately, Nick pondered if this was all a part of the watch's doing or if this was simply Judy being older and more comfortable with her role in the ZPD. She wasn't even in her thirties yet, compared to Nick who had been over that hill already for quite some time. But perhaps...Rabbits aged faster? Or was there more to it than that? The hypnotism was indeed real, after all. But to make changes on a person's psyche was something else entirely. Nick didn't want to rewrite Judy's personality, which was why he had been so...Unclear in his instructions. He just wanted to bring the best out of her. And, as far as he could see, it seemed to be working quite well.
But then the question came a month later when they were having lunch while on patrol.
"Nick," said Judy. "How do you feel about kids?"
Nick practically choked on the noodles he was slurping. "Kids!?"
"Yeah, I dunno. Like having some of your own before you get too old for it. That sort of thing."
After patting his chest to make the food go down, Nick took a moment to reflect on the question.
"I dunno," he explained. "I mean, given my age, I always thought that that particular ship had sailed, you know?"
"Oh, please. You're still plenty young if you really wanted to do it."
"Then I suppose it's just been a matter of finding the right person," Nick chuckled. "It takes two to tango, after all."
"Yeah..."
"Why?" Nick asked. "Have you been thinking about it?"
"Yeah, I dunno. Now that I'm nice and settled in Zootopia and my career, I guess I'm just beginning to wonder if I should start thinking about beginning a family. It was really weird too, I only really even considered it like maybe a month ago."
"Hah, yeah. That's a bit strange..."
"But it's the same as you, I guess," continued Judy. "Never really found the right partner for it. Or one that can...Well, you know what I mean."
Nick did. Cross species relationships weren't unusual in Zootopia, but like anything it came with its own forms of obstacles. Namely in the form of reproduction. Most couples were left with the only option of adoption, which wasn't a bad thing at all. But was it what Judy wanted to do?
The conversation awkwardly shifted to other things, though Nick never fully abandoned the thoughts of potential children in the future as he patted the watch still in his pocket. If this seemed to be what Judy wanted, then maybe he had the right solution for it in the form of a special tool that he had been too cautious to use willy nilly. Messing with people's mind was a step too far, after all, even for him. But with Judy and her plight...Nick sensed that the thoughts had always been there and he had just sort of helped bring them to the surface. He knew that she definitely liked him, after all, and this new motherly side of her was definitely appealing to him. Perhaps, in return, he could do something for her using the magic of the watch. Or maybe even something else altogether.
The next day, Nick decided to... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
