Chapter #5

A Change in Personality

    by: Ëtalfni Author IconMail Icon
"I would find it attractive if you change your personality a bit," Nick spoke before correcting himself. "Just a bit! Well, kind of! I mean, I like you, Carrots. I like you a lot, in fact! It's just that sometimes you can be a bit...Reckless."

"Reckless..." Judy repeated.

"Right. It's a part of who you are and I understand that. But you have to understand that you also have a habit of dragging me into the chaos whenever we're on a case together. And you're a fair bit younger than me by eight years even though I know I don't look it with my dashing appearance. Sometimes I worry if I'll be able to keep up with you at all."

"I'm a fair bit younger than you..."

"I think my favorite times are the ones where you listen to what I have to say, you know? Like when we were on the gondola that one time during the Nighthowler case. You're at your best when you're very nurturing and patient with me, because I know I can be a horrible pain to deal with. And really maybe when this is all over and this works, I'll let you have a go at with this thing on me and change what you don't like. Sound fair to you?"

"Nurturing and patient..."

"Most of all, I don't want to change who you are. I just want to...Bring out those best traits in you. Because that's what I really like about you."

"I get those traits...From my mom."

"Well, then maybe that's the best template to pull things from. You understand what I'm saying with all this, Carrots? I feel like I went on a bit of a tangent with you when I'm barely sure how this thing works yet."

"I think...I understand."

"Oh, good," said Nick as he continued to swing the watch back and forth. "Well, admittedly, I don't quite know how to stop this. I'm guessing I just cease waving it around and...It will do its thing? Whatever that is?"

"I guess..."

"Alright, I'm going to stop swinging this then and you're going to snap back to normal in three...Two...One!"

Nick slowed the pendulum down until it came to a complete stop, though Judy continued to stare blankly at it until he covered the gemstone up with his paw and pocketed the watch.

Judy shook her head before wiping her eyes with her paw, her voice distinctly more lively than it had been moments ago. "What happened...?"

"Look who's awake," Nick grinned. "How do you feel, Carrots?"

"Fine?" Judy said as she eyed Nick. "I just feel like I blinked out there all of a sudden. Seriously, Nick, what happened? One moment we were talking about you feeling spacey and the next...Did I really fall asleep?"

Nick raised an eye. Judy didn't seem to remember anything to do with the hypnotism, even the building up to it. It was like her mind had completely blocked it out automatically. Not that Nick was complaining in the slightest. Like he told Judy, this was all a new thing for him. And something told him that she wouldn't have appreciated him messing with her head a wee bit. Even though he had meant every word about maybe her getting her fair share in later...Maybe after seeing how this all played out a bit first.

"You...Kinda did," Nick lied, patting the pocket with the watch. "It was actually somewhat cute to watch you just dozing off in mid sentence like that."

"Shut up," Judy said, pushing Nick away slightly with a blush in her ears.

"You must have been working too hard lately. Lucky we're off duty or Bogo would blow his stack."

"I would just tell him about the time you 'borrowed' his Gazelle signed CD for mood music during our last late night shift."

"Now that's just cheating, who even listens to CDs anymore?"

Before long, the two of them were back to their playful bickering selves as they slowly winded down for an evening watching movies together again. If Nick didn't know any better, then he'd say that nothing had happened with using the watch on Judy outside of getting her to admit some pretty embarrassing things.

But, of course, the mind and body took a while to accumulate to change. Especially with such a complex idea like the one Nick had planted into Judy's head. Little did both of them know, Judy would be experiencing some gradual changes over the next few weeks or so. But then the question was, exactly how was Judy going to change?

Over the next month, Judy would...
