This choice: Horror.  •  Go Back...
Chapter #5

Beware! You’re In For A Scare!

    by: Gator Author IconMail Icon
Your lips curling into a self-assured smirk, you decide to go with the third option: horror, reaching up and tapping that choice with a finger. The list changes into a pair of sentences.

YOU HAVE CHOSEN 3: HORROR.
PLEASE GET COMFORTABLE AS YOUR EXPERIENCE IS PREPARED.

You raise an eyebrow. There’s that word again. Experience; not watch. However, you quickly shrug it off, thinking that it’s probably just an attempt to hype up a probably dumb movie.

Waltzing back to your chosen bed, you again flop onto it before wriggling into the comfiest position attainable with the TV in view. You settle with your hands underneath the back of your head, with a pair of the large, extremely comfy pillows offered by the room underneath them in turn, and you look over at the screen.

The sentences change again.

GOOD.
BEGINNING YOUR HORROR EXPERIENCE…

A second passes, and the words disappear, but this time, no new words come to take their place. Instead, the entire screen turns a lavender color with the white silhouette of a simplistic bunny in the center.

It stays like that… and stays like that… and stays like that… and stays like that…

What the heck? You think to yourself with a yawn. What’s taking so long? Is it busted? Maybe you should go up to it and check to see…

You yawn again. This one is much, much stronger. You’re eyelids feel so heavy; you’re body, so at peace. Why ruin this over a stupid TV?

Maybe, you think as your breathing stabilizes into a tranquil rhyme, your chest so serenely rising and falling, it’ll have fixed itself after a short nap.

Yeah. A nap seems good. You could definitely do with a good nap. A good…

Your thoughts sink into the encroaching darkness as your eyelids flutter shut. Your last blurry glimpse is of that white silhouette bunny, resting in the heart of it’s lavender sea…

Lake Lavender. You almost can’t believe that you’re actually here.

When you had entered that raffle, you had never expected to actually be one of the lucky twenty-four souls chosen to spend an all-expenses paid week at the world famous resort. Even when that envelope that arrived that morning in all it’s lavender glory, even when had read those words of congratulations, even after you had held that silver ticket of acceptance between your fingers, you had struggled to believe it. Even when that lavender coach had pulled up to your house a week later, even on the long ride here, and even now as you looked out upon the sunlit, secluded little paradise next to the massive lake from which it got it’s name, there was still a lagging little thought in back of your skull.

It eggs you on to pinch yourself; to let the pain reveal if or if not you were simply dreaming after all. But you find that there’s no need: for the refreshing breeze that greets your skin, gracing your nose with a wonderful blend of nature’s finest aromas, assures you that it is. This is real.

With sparkling eyes and lips curled in a wide smile, one bag on your back and another in hand, you take your final steps from the coach and make your first onto the dirt below. There’s a satisfying crunch beneath your feet. Looking out at the view, you draw in a deep, deep breath of that exhilarating air, and sigh happily.

An amused chuckle comes from behind you. Being the last one to exit the coach, you figure it could only be the driver. Sure enough, when you curiously turn around to look to the source, she, a huge, white furred rabbit woman, is the only living thing still inside, sitting in in the driver’s seat, her paws on the steering wheel.

Her smile is as soft as her gaze as her beautiful eyes meet your’s, yet something about it stirs up unease in the pit of your gut.

She chuckles again. “Sorry, little guy. No offense.” She tips her hat to you in a gesture of apology. “It’s just always cute seeing someone so excited to be here.”

Taking her eyes off you, she reaches a paw down to the key and gives it a turn. Without stutter or fail, the coach comes back to live with a growling heartbeat. Despite wishing to, you find yourself unable to move away.

“I do hope you enjoy Lake Lavender...” She says as she undoes the brake handle before pressing a button. The coach doors huff as the begin to reach out to each other. Her gaze returns to you as both of her hands return to the steering wheel. Her features – her eyes, her smile, and all the littler things in between – are sharper now.

“Because, trust me…” It’s low, almost a whisper. Her words are so heavy. “I think it’s going to enjoy you greatly.”

Then the metal doors meet, closing right in front of you. Confused, and still unnerved by the rabbit’s look and words, you watch the vehicle as it reverses into a turn and then heads back onto the road it had taken to deliver you here. It’s not long before you lose sight of it, and it’s driver, behind the massive deluge of trees that surround the resort like an ocean.

You continue to stare at where you had last scene the coach for a good few seconds before you shut your eyes and shake your head, shaking away your unease. She was probably just trying to be encouraging. Yeah; that’s what you decide it was.

After a few seconds of stillness to let the unsettling feeling dissipate, you open up the bag in your hand and retrieve from it that silver ticket. You run your eyes over it again.

Congratulations! It reads in a lavender font. Lake Lavender awaits you!
Then it has your name.
A coach will arrive to take you there in one weeks time. Be ready! Your room’s number at the resort is 47.
You do not need to present this ticket to the driver. We know who you are already.

You hadn’t given much thought to those final line before. Reading them over now let that unease worm it’s way back into your gut. However, you quickly force it out again. It was probably nothing more than what you had thought it was initially: a safety precaution against those who might try to sell on the ticket for money.

Putting the ticket back and sealing your bag back up tightly, you glance around the area. Sturdy wooden buildings are scattered all over; you can even spot a few way down the shoreline. The closest of these buildings to you at the moment is also the seemingly biggest, being three floors tall unlike the majority of the other buildings, which are mostly single floors. It’s entrance is also much wider than those of the smaller buildings. “LAKE LAVENDER: RECEPTION AREA” hangs over said entrance in large metal letters.

Maybe you should head in there. It’s most likely where the rest of your fellow passengers are, and surely a reception would be able to provide more information about the resort.

Alternately, you could go for a look around yourself right now. Maybe search out where your room is, or just explore this new world while the sun is still high in the sky.

You have the following choices:

*Pen*
1. Head into the reception area.

2. Take a look around the camp grounds.

*Pen* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
