Alex Danvers didn't want Nia and Brainy's presence in the past, her past, to affect her future, coming up with a plan to ensure they would have little to no impact on the events surrounding Kara's Prom.
She didn't tell Nia and Brainy about this, worried they might react poorly to the thought of being shrunk to the size of tiny gnats. She only hoped they didn't encounter her younger self in 2009, unable to remember if she swatted or crushed any bugs that day.
"I'm sure they'll be fine. I'll apologize later." Alex assured herself as she watched the ship disappear into thin air.

"Okay, Nia, we will be exiting the time stream in precisely 6 seconds," Brainy announced as Nia turned the corner in her prom dress.
"5, 4, 3, 2, 1." Brainy counted down as Nia took a seat beside him.
"Man, I can't wait to see what 2009 is like, again, I mean." Nia corrected since her past self was 12 at this point.
They exited the time stream, not realizing right away that their ship was half the size of a golf ball, meaning they were nearly microscopic inside.
"Wow, we came in high up, but the readings confirm we're in 2009, so good job." Nia smiled as she looked down at the forest below. They must have been hundreds if not a thousand feet in the air.
"Impossible. We should have entered this year at a height less than 50 feet to avoid detection," Brainy said, confirming they were only 47 feet in the air on the screen.
"Brainy! I think we have a problem!" Nia panicked as the forest below quickly got a lot closer, taking control of the ship to avoid crashing into giant branches and tree trunks.
"This is not good. It appears that we've shrunk." Brainy said, stating the obvious while Nia was busy keeping them alive.
"You think?" She asked sarcastically, realizing they were about to enter a real-life episode of Land of the Giants during their search for a teenage version of Kara Danvers.
However, before they could even focus their search on Kara, the diminutive duo encountered someone they didn't plan on meeting, flying past the face of an enormous CJ Grant as Nia flew them out of the forest. The younger version of Kara's old boss instantly set her cold brown eyes on the miniaturized vessel flying in front of her face.
Each of her eyes was easily larger than their ship, and even though Nia knew that it was likely impossible, she couldn't shake the feeling that CJ was looking directly at her, sending a shiver down her spine.
"Oh my god, that's Cat Grant." Nia whimpered, understanding what Kara meant when she told her the media mogul could be a little intimidating sometimes. But even Kara would likely wet her pants if she ever saw Cat Grant from Nia's perspective.
"She's massive." Nia declared, unable to focus on anything but their survival as she steered the ship away from the future CEO of CatCo Worldwide Media. To compare her to a skyscraper would be an understatement, as she easily dwarfed all the buildings in National City, including the CatCo headquarters.
"What in the world was that?" Cat boomed, disgusted by the blatant invasion of her personal space, her keen investigative instincts telling her to capture whatever it was that had just flown past her face, rationalizing that the small vessel must be an alien spacecraft.
"Look out!" Brainy yelled, alerting Nia as he pointed out Cat's enormous hand taking a swing at them, trying to swat them out of the sky.
"She's going to squash us!" Nia panicked, taking evasive maneuvers to avoid the gigantic blonde's nimble fingers, diving towards the ground, traveling down the young reporter's red pantleg.
Nia struggled to regain control of the ship, pulling them out of a nosedive moments before they came to a crash landing in the dirt. "Phew, that was a close one," Nia said, wiping her brow.
However, they weren't out of the woods yet as a shadow overlapped their ship. Nia gulped, forcing herself to look up outside the window, where she saw a colossal sole of Cat's brown Cuban heel coming down on their ship, ready to completely annihilate them. She could faintly make out the word Prada, which had been scuffed over by hours of trekking through the woods looking for signs of alien activity.
Nia pressed forward, narrowly avoiding becoming roadkill under Cat's foot as she stirred up dust behind them. Unfortunately, there was little time to celebrate as the shockwave from the young woman's stomp knocked their ship off course.
Will Nia be able to regain control of their ship, or will they crash and find themselves at the mercy of a young Cat Grant?
1. No, they come to a crash and their vessel becomes inoperable, making them easy prey for the young Cat Grant.
2. No, but Nia manages to fly up as a passing Car drives by, landing unnoticed by a young Alex Danvers on her passenger seat.
3. Yes, Nia flies away from Cat Grant, focusing on their main mission of finding Kara in 2009.
