It was the large Monstrous Nightmare that attracted the attention of the mysterious new dragon. Though far smaller, it was far harder to spot than the great red beast Snotlout rode. The speed and colour made it tricky to estimate the size of the creature.
Certainly Snotlout entirely missed it, as it glided above and behind him. Virtually invisible against the cloud cover, it was only the sound of its blast that alerted the rider to the danger.
Turning in time, the throne like seat obstructing rather than helping. The blast hit him full on.

Snotlout could only screw his eyes closed, as the purple blast hit. Too late to evade, he was engulfed in the dazzling colour. The effects visible even through his eyelids. It was a revelation, the fiery blast far less burning and painful than he'd have imagined. Snapping open his it was clear this wasn't expected.
Unable to keep his seat, Snotlout tumbled from his seat. Crying out, as he fell. A second revelation occurred, as a bleating cry was what emerged. Lacking any human cries, or words of any kind. He was mortified to see his clothes fluttering away, free from his body, as he tumbled downwards.
Hookfang wasn't the fastest to react, but he did tuck his wings and dive after his former rider. As he dove, his gaze darted all around, hunting for the dangerous predator who'd picked on such a mighty dragon. Even Hookfang's ponderous brain, knew this wasn't the natural order.
His gaping mouth ready to fire a defensive blast looked cavernous to the terrified Snotlout. The immense body swept past, only snatching him from the air with those long curved talons.
He was saved! But, other revelations crashed one upon the next. Either he was smaller, or his dragon had grown in size!?
The next that replaced that question, was his puny body as he struggled to reclaim any dignity. It just felt awkward and wrong. The ground no longer racing so rapidly, allowed a more measured observation.
Snotlout took in his new form. He was coated head to toe in wool! Worse he lacked any signs of humanity. A panic filled bleat burst unbidden free.
As the powerful dragon swooped low, the grass whizzed past in a green blur. Before he was dropped to tumble and turn in the soft grass.
