This choice: Zahara has to pick her classes tomorrow, and her mind is made up • Go Back...Chapter #14Early bird gets the pancakes by: Unknown As morning broke on Buttercombe Academy, Cass was beginning to stir in her room. After getting over the “shock” of waking up in a different bed to her one at home, she began a few morning stretches and began to change into her Buttercombe uniform. It had been specifically tailored for her stature, so there were no extra long blazer problems or oversized skirt.
“*Yaaaawn* Morning Zahara are you ready to pick...classes?” Cass announced to a surprisingly empty dorm room, she was sure she had heard someone walking around out here a minute ago. Perhaps Zahara had just returned to her room?
“Zahara, are you in there?” Cass called, knocking on her roommate’s bedroom door; no response. Cass did not have Zahara’s number either, so no chance of buzzing her to get a location. After a few minutes waiting to see if she was simply taking a morning shower in her en-suite bathroom, Cass called it quits and decided to get some breakfast.
“Where could she have gone?” Cass asked herself as she walked into the school cafeteria. Gathering a tray, Cass filled it with a few morning edibles; some waffles, juice and a bowl of cereal. But as she turned to look for a seat she heard a familiar voice.
“Cass! CASS! Over here!”
Turning to face the source of the sound, Cass spotted Zahara, who had already acquired herself a breakfast and table.
“Morning red! Did you know they have ten different toppings for pancakes on this morning alone? Crazy huh!” Zahara pointed out as she cut another sectioned off the doughy breakfast and slurped it down.
“Ummm, have you been down here all morning?” Cass asked, cocking an eyebrow.
“Duh! What does it look like I have been doing? After last night I couldn’t wait to see what their morning options were, and they do NOT disappoint!” Zahara elaborated before diving back into her food.
“Uh...huh” Cass responded, not sure how to take this. Was Zahara always like this around food? Would explain why her parents kept her away from a lot of it. “Anyway, still want to give Culinary Arts a go?” Cass asked.
“Oh yeah, I canNOT wait to start making this myself” Zahara responded, licking stray honey from her dark lips. Cass raised an eyebrow; Zahara did seem a little too enthusiastic about cooking, and would probably get rather disappointed learning it is not as easy as it looked, especially replicating the work of some of the best chefs for hundreds of miles.
---
“Ugh!” came the groans of Zahara as she and Cass made their way to the freshman orientation.
“You ate too much” Cass replied flatly.
“I know, but it all tasted so goooood” Zahara replied huffily, rubbing the bump in her Blazer with both hands.
“You can’t go from eating like a sparrow to a whale in one go; you have to give your body time to adjust to bigger meals” Cass explained as Zahara pouted.
Eventually both girls arrived in the main Atrium, where booths had been set up for all the non-compulsory classes. Thankfully, Zahara’s choice of heading out early to eat breakfast had made them one of the earliest arrivals; meaning there were still plenty of spaces left.
Like a shot Zahara was off, cradling her stomach as she ran as fast as she could to the Culinary Arts class, Cass in hot pursuit.
Sitting at the booth was a young woman with sensibly cut brown hair and a rather puppy-like expression. As Zahara and Cass approached she suddenly perked up.
“Thinking of joining Culinary Arts you two?” She asked hopefully to the pair.
“Yes yes yes! Certainly!” Zahara squealed out, “Can you teach me to cook like the chefs here?” she added, her eyes going wide.
“Uh...sure! It’s what I am here for, what about you?” the brunette asked, turning to Cass.
“Yeah, I kinda got transferred here just for that, I am a sophomore” Cass explained.
“As, that means you will be taught by Eri Flattery” the teacher explained before turning back to Zahara, “and you will be taught by me, I am Jennifer Walker” she introduced.
“Awsome! I can’t wait” Zahara squealed again as Cass dragged her away.
“We need to pick other courses, remember?” the red-head reminded her friend, “And didn’t you have a stomach ache just a minute ago?”
“Oh yeah! Huh, must have gone down...that means I can go back to the cafeteria and try the last three pancake toppings!” Zahara suddenly remembered.
“Really? Food again? What am I going to do with you?” Cass laughed as Zahara put her arm over her roommate before joining in the merriment. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
