I decided to go with mom, because she was the easiest target. She was already smaller than Matt and me so she wouldn't be able to notice much of a difference, and more importantly, she was a heavy sleeper so infiltrating in her room and using the remote on her would be simpler. I still moved slowly, just in case and more to contain my own excitement.
Opening the door I smiled, there was mom peacefully sleeping, completely unaware of my presence. Being such a heavy sleeper helped my bro and me back then to escape punishment when a party went for too long, and now it was going to help me experimenting with this thing. I took a breath and pointed it at her, wondering how smaller would I want her to get. If I remembered correctly, her head was on line with my nose, so I decided that making her head now in line between my neck and my chest was fair game, beyond that it would probably be way too noticeable.
"Ok here it goes" I pressed the button for a couple of seconds and smiled at seeing the light not disturbing mom's sleep, it was hard to notice lying in bed as she was but focusing on her head on the pillow I could see a bit of a change, enough to make me believe the experiment was successful. I celebrated internally knowing that the only thing left to do was to wait and check later. I left her room, overcoming the temptation to mess with Matt too, but coming with fun scenarios such as all of us shrinking but me not shrinking so much, or even growing at the same rate they "lost" height.. the possibilities were endless.
I distracted myself watching one of those old chrismtas specials while hoping mom woke up already, but that was the disadvantage of her being a heavy sleeper, she would only wake up after an hour or so. I could wait though, and before I noticed I felt drowsy so I just decided to doze off just a little bit more to make time pass quicker.
When I woke up again I went downstairs and smiled, my mom was there preparing breakfast. I couldn't tell if she was smaller, although her clothes looked like they were a bit too big on her. In any case I approached her and gave her a surprise hug from her back, smiling when I noticed that indeed I could now easily see past her head.
"Good morning mom!"
"Ack, Tina.. you scared me.. Why are you so early?" Mom said, seemingly not noticing anything. This was going well I thought.
"Dunno, guess I sleep too well" I lied, waiting for mom to turn around and see her new stature for herself.
"At least one of us did, I feel a bit weird" she said as she tried to get something from a high shelf "It's like I'm stiff or something" she said more to herself after not being able to reach.
I just giggled and stepped in to help my shorter mom.
"Here"
"Thanks.." She said before finally looking at me and giving me the double take I expected.
