A visit to the USS Midway, NOV 2013

In this picture, dated Nov 2013, my older son, Andy is mimicking the "go" signal given to pilots signaling that it's okay to launch from the Aircraft carrier. The USS Midway uses a steam catapult system to launch an airplane. This allows the the plane to get up to speed so when it leaves the deck, it has enough power to take flight and not fall into the ocean.

Also, this picture helps to give the viewer some concept of "depth." You can see about how long the flight deck is here.
