I've been enjoying the discussion (as I've read it tonight - I promise I'm not really a lurker - I'm just so busy that I'm rarely online anymore - so this is a long post, because I don't know when I'll be online again) about the differences between romance and romantica and erotica. Love is an interesting concept, which it seems like all of these genres take into account. Romance focuses mostly on the emotional aspects of love, letting the physical aspects take the back seat (where they proceed to do...never mind). Erotica is the opposite, where physical sensation is the primary focus, and emotions are mostly off stage (coming on every once in a while). Romantica is where the two meet - focusing both on the physical sensations of making love and the emotional sensations of falling or being in love. I started writing erotica mostly because of the personal challenge. I wanted to know whether I could be so entirely in my character's body that I could write the sensation. Maybe someday I'll write something that is more toward the erotica end of the spectrum...it should be interesting. Good luck to everyone. I need to get home. And eat. And print out my homework. And sleep - I had an 8:00 class this morning (Creative writing-today I was workshoped, and I still feel a tad worked over), and a dance class (beginning Irish folkdance), and I feel so sore right now both mind and body. Hugs to everyone. And the new faces. ** Image ID #564284 Unavailable ** |
