Earth's degradation

When I was younger i used to attend an all day earth festival on Earth Day. There, we were taught in a fun atmoshphere about wildlife, recycling, and the general importance of the earth. I have taken that with me all through my life.
In my current school, to celebrate earth day, we have a breakfast for everyone who bikes to school on that day, saving fuel and reducing pollution. This is nice, but its unfortunatley about all we do.
AS we come upon earth day, I would like to know what other people do differenlty on that day, if anything. Please post any ideas for personal or school-wide conservation and earth day activities.
