You raise important points. Yes, with something as important as parenting, there are many aspects to be considered. I work in schools and I've seen / heard of parents not wanting to pack a proper lunch for the kid, or take care of so many aspects of bringing up a child. When I ran summer classes for kids with my colleague, parents sometimes came hours late to pick up the kid, with their mobile phones off ... I have friends I've seen not having any bedtime routine for very small kids and suddenly at some late hour in the night the kid just falls asleep ... I think there should be SOMETHING in place - a law, counseling - whatever - to let couples know that having a kid means following some routines, not being able to have the social life you did before ... making some sort of commitment that you'll look after a kid ... It means accepting that priorities have to change to accommodate a new, dependent human being. |
