...nobody is allowed to have a kid unless they're committed to looking after her / him. Such a law sounds good, but would probably change very little: How many committed parents find themselves unable to care for a child (or themselves) through, for example, post partum depression or a dramatic/unexpected change in circumstances after the birth (loss of a partner, job loss, etc.)? Abuse & neglect are already illegal (at least everywhere I know about) and yet children are still abused and neglected. In certain countries are you going to force an 'unsuitable' woman to give birth should she find herself pregnant through rape, a burst condom, whatever only to then rip the baby out of her arms (abortion not being an option due to other laws, when the pregnancy is discovered, etc.)? What happens if one parent is committed and the other not? Force the couple apart so that the committed parent may keep the child? |
