Didn't get caught in it, but we had to flee a hurricane about twenty some odd years ago. Then there's been a few tornadoes. One of them jumped our house and laid waste to everything around us - it was wild, and a blessing we were spared. It sounded like a jet engine sitting on top of the house when it was close, and the house shook a bit but nothing else really happened to us. Been through some floods through my lifetime too. Somehow, my family has always been blessed enough to come out of them safe, if not at least a little soggy. After one flood when I was a kid, we took 5 gallon buckets out near the stock tanks and picked up all the fish that had washed out with the flood and were littering the ground, and we put all the live ones back into the tanks. That year, the barns flooded something awful! And we've had some ice storms bad enough through the years that caused us to lose power for a week plus at a time. Ice storms in Texas are dangerous, as no one is prepared for weather like that - our electric grid, our auto tires, etc. none of it is designed for freezing temperatures in the teens and tons of ice everywhere. |
