Long ago, I had a side gig as a wedding photographer. Part of my training was to set up the cake-cutting so it would be more photogenic. It got drilled into me from Day 1: absolutely discourage cake-smashing. I'm proud to say that it never happened at one of "my" weddings, but I've seen it as an ordinary guest, and it is never funny.

I say this as someone who can find almost anything funny, under the right circumstances.
