My empty plate. When my second-oldest cousin got married, someone (my grandma, I suppose) had decided that the entire family was to go on a diet of some traditional foods. We're fifteen cousins, I'm #12, and I was about 10 years old at the time. Well, there must've been about eight of us kids at our table, and various groups of guests at other tables around us. The maitre-de was instructing the waiters NOT to serve us, but to serve everyone else. Nobody had told us that there was food being prepared separately in the kitchen for us and it would arrive in five minutes. We just thought nobody wanted us to eat.
