The idea of picking one project out of the many that I have started but not finished. There are a number of novels and series that I have worked on, mostly with the help of National Novel Writing Month or last year's adjusted version of just Novel Writing Month. I've got a young adult first book in a series ready for submission along with the ones that are singular books (2 of those). However, I also have a few adult romance/erotica type stories started but not finished. Then there are stories that I've worked on with the help of writing challenges like what I entered in Lodestar or when I wrote the section of the big novel with the help of a music album for a challenge. I suppose, for this assignment, I will pick the series that I want to get worked on this year because I have written sections but haven't finished things. This is romance with a mid naughty range depending on the book for the erotic elements. Started just referred to as Thomas/Kyle because that was the main couple. I wrote 120,000 words one NaNoWriMo attempt, years ago, for the first book. Then a more recent NaNoWriMo, I worked on the novel rewrite as that version needed split into two books. There are going to be three book that focus on Thomas and Kyle with their relationship. However, romance series don't have to follow the same couple. So, the books after those three are going to follow different characters, most of which are Kyle's friends as he is the younger character. I have plotted a couple of the books. I wrote a first draft of one for Novel Writing Month 2025 and started another since I did write a lot of words this last year. One thing that I need to do is plan out the timeline. I need to know when certain things happen for each books along with if I want to write the part that happens before Thomas meets Kyle. There are also his friends and his ex-boyfriend who will find the write person some time in the future. I've got at least 7 books planned and have named the whole thing Found Family series. As for the timeline on how long I have been working on these books, it has been since 2007. Wow that is a long time. Why haven't I made progress on the series? Several reasons with the main one being that I am easily distracted. For example, while writing this entry I was distracted by Quantum, the kitten my mom and I adopted last week. She is adorable. I'm also easily distracted by other projects. Even though I'm not working right now, there is a lot that I want to get done that doesn't involved the computer or writing. I'm still undergoing treatments even though the cancer seems to be gone as I've reached the stage of no sign of disease but treatment will last at least another two years. All the other stuff involved in life, my other duties on WDC like reviews, contests, and writing newsletters and sleep make it hard to finish the project. As for how someone in the group or on WDC can help... I don't have an answer. These are adult novels about gay men and their relationships. One has a cop and younger man, daddy type element. Another has a guy who likes to wear feminine style clothes pair with a guy who played basketball but they are closer in age. I suppose someone could help push me in my writing group forum where people make goals (novel writing plus group). That or if someone could help me with some of the contest management/reviews, then I could have less WDC distraction... That's about it unless someone here has other ideas how to keep me on track with a series and not distracted by 10 other ones, gym, trying to find a job and things I need to do on here. Open to suggestions. Word counts is 677. |
