I've only been through one that I could feel, but it wasn't strong enough to do major damage (well, not to me; it messed up the Washington Monument). My biggest fear, once I realized it was an earthquake, was that I had to save my liquor collection from falling to the floor.

A stronger quake would be truly terrifying.
