I once started a story idea with the phrase: "Distribution Revolution" - what if, in the future, the nature of goods distribution is completely different, with automated delivery systems. ......by the way, this was a decade or two before Amazon had their own trucks, let alone started experimenting with drone deliveries and self-driving taxis were conceptualized. By the time I actually wrote the novel, it had morphed into a story about a scientist called a paraneurogeneticist who was an expert in the biology of humans who exhibited paranormal abilities due to a genetic mutation in their brains. The scientist performed an experiment that resulted in her own daughter, who was a mega-version of these humans with far superior abilities - and who was the protagonist in my story.
So, yeah. "What If" is a great place to start, even if you start with setting, which seems mundane.
