Aging populations are a problem around the world. In my dual masters' half my masters' was gerontology and probably 90% of my classmates were Asian, many of which were actually from Asia. I went to a study abroad in S. Korea (and another in Israel, before the war, obviously). Most countries seem unprepared because people like to bury their heads in the sand when it comes to older people and people with disabilities...and many older folks fit both those bills. So, take heart, it's not just Australia. To some extent, it's pretty much a worldwide problem. Eek!  |
