Well, first, I don't pay to watch ads. But that's my choice: either give it to me for free with ads or make me pay for it, but if you're going to do both, I'll find something else to entertain myself. I never had a cable subscription for that exact reason. But that's a personal thing.

Second, "Public funding for specific media outlets means that government picks winners and losers, and that's not democracy." Okay, but ad-supported media means that corporations pick winners and losers. Is that democracy?
