I would say it's usually familiarity with the author or book / movie series. Sometimes, though, one medium will spark an interest in another one. That's how I went from watching YouTube clips of "SAS Rogue Heroes" to reading the book. As it happens, that's also how Con O'Neill "redeemed himself" in my eyes from portraying Plant Director (and weasel) Viktor Bryukhanov in the "Chernobyl" Mini-series to affirming the actions of the SAS men in general - and Major Blair "Paddy" Maine in particular - as Field Marshal Montgomery in "Rogue Heroes".


A favorite handle overlaying a US Army shoulder patch I proudly wore for many years.
