An excellent question, but as a musician, it is a tricky question to answer! It's tricky because the first thing I'd do is ask you a question. What is your favorite song in "this genre"? I have favorite songs across most of the musical spectrum. It's impossible to pick just one, since it depends on my mood at that time. Even within the genres, I have multiple choices. Jazz? Are we talking about bebop or 40s big band? Rock? A single vocalist or a horn band like BST or Chicago? Hard rock, punk rock, yacht rock? Classical? What period? The best answer I can give to this question? Is the music musical? Has the musician paid their dues? Does it evoke an emotional response?  ...I'm only the trombone player! |
