Question of the Day!

Not so much about me, specifically, but I recent ran across a reference to "your childhood pediatrician" which reminds me of all the times I've heard references to "the street you grew up on" or "your childhood home" etc.

Why is it assumed that everyone spent their entire childhood in one place? Some of us lived multiple apartments, transferred schools, saw whatever doctor was available at the clinic, etc.
