Absolutely not; we're not in ancient Sparta.

Personally I think the people we should look up to are the explorers, diplomats, scientists and inventors who shape and discover our world. They are doing something truly extraordinary.

The skills athletes use are just adaptations our species evolved to survive the Pleistocene. Now that we're innovators, farmers and engineers, sport skills have little real merit.
