Many years ago. I gave up Christmas cards because I could not afford stamps. Never did much with birthdays except for immediate family. Now, I can say hi Merry Christmas or Happy birthday and it is nice to be able to stay in touch with family and friends online. I think people are sincere when they say nice things to others or commiserate with whatever problem friends or family may be experiencing. Social media may be a pain in some ways but is very needful in others.
