The things that we experienced up until the end of puberty have a psychological effect on us, and so they are the building blocks that make us who we are. Therefore, to us, they do seem better because they made us who we are.

Having said that, when my kids, who are both millennials, prefer music and films from last century, that does seem to indicate there might be something to quality changing.
