In Britain there is such a thing known as a Breville Sandwich Maker. It is similar to a waffle maker but the size and shape of a standard slice of bread. This is what enabled me to bring the art of cheese toast to its highest peak. Cheese toast (not the same as the American toasted cheese sandwich which is disqualified because it fries the bread instead of toasting it) is wonderful enough but the Breville gives the possibility of filling it with an infinite variety of additions to the cheese. And these are what we call "toasties."
