Where I live - yep. We even have a sign in the library to beware of snakes because they will come inside out of the heat. And spiders are everywhere. Last October, my mum had to 'bug bomb' the spare room because a heap of red backs made their home there.

Now, I've not been bitten, but my sister was bitten on the thigh by a white-tip spider. It caused necrosis and now, 25 years later, the scar on her leg is still 10cm long and 4cm wide. Really nasty. However, there are anti-venemes at all hospitals and most medical centres.
