We generally reserve "proof" for distilled spirits like bourbon, tequila, or vodka. It's just ABVx2. One of those legacy things like feet instead of meters, I suppose. But for whatever reason (I could look it up, but I've been drinking), it's not used for fine fermented beverages like beer or wine.
