I'm not sure what the kit instructions are, but when I'm creating a bracelet, I tape the beginning-end to a TV tray (securely!) and then I can sit in the living room and watch TV while I'm weaving the strings into a bracelet. (Although my eyes are mostly on the bracelet, lol.) It's fun and satisfying choosing which colors to use.
