I have read that using positive affirmations is a bunch of bunk. In scientific studies, it's as effective as a placebo.
The other side of the coin though, is that positive (or negative) thinking when you're in a calm, grounded state of mind can make a difference to your mental and physical health. (Yeah, I'm talking about meditation.) This has also been proven – if you sit or lie calmly, relax, breathe, you it's possible to a place within your body and mind for more positivity, love, light. I'd usually give a much more detailed explanation, but I'm learning to summarize and let go.
I can't give the exact sources for the scientific studies, or "how-to" meditate in a way that'll work for you, but y'all know how to use the magic google oracle, right?
