A few years back, I was working at the local Home Depot as a seasonal garden associate. This woman walks up to me asks, "what plants clean the air?"
I, being the recently graduated biology student, say "all plants clean the air of pollutants."
She scowls and says "No I mean remove pollen from the air! I want a natural air filter my kids have allergies!"
I grudgingly pointed her to the indoors house plants. It may not have been excellent customer service but considering that it was kind of a dumb question the lady's lucky I didn't call her a moron to her face.
Pollen is how plants reproduce. It is ridiculous to think that a plant is capable of sucking all the pollen—including its own—out of the air. In fact plants try really really hard not to self pollinate.
If you want pollen out of the air, quit being ridiculous and buy an activated charcoal, HEPA grade air filter; not a plant.(sorry if that's offensive but the biological world works a certain way and thats not it.)
