The crust. Yes, there is also a crust around the edges of slices of bread, but that piece at the end is the crust. My ex also called it the crust. So I think it is common around at least South Australia.

Because of work, my son calls it the endspiece or endpiece.

A friend from the UK calls it the block.

Who cares? Toast it up with butter and vegemite, and it's great!
