When I was around 10, my neighbor filmed fur seals being "harvested" for their pelts, and brought a batched of seal livers back. Delicious, and I hadn't started butchering livestock, yet, so the method of "harvesting" didn't bother me. Yet. No, it isn't harvesting by the faintest stretch of the imagination. I'm surprised Greenpeace hasn't lethally stepped in. Among Native Americans, the Great Spirit (by many names) is thanked for the harvest, and, further, the Cherokee apologize to the harvest's spirit so that it will not be mad at them and take revenge. The fur seals are hit on the head with a long stick, as many as the Canadian humans can hit before the seals get away. This is still going on, and is hunting. |
