Welcome to Writing.Com. I also found the site very confusing when I first joined. At least you have posted here. It took me months to do more than read stories here.

Check out "Writing.Com 101"  and read all of the emails that the site sends you automatically. The sooner you post something to your portfolio, the sooner members here can start giving you actionable advice. There isn't much to say in terms of giving advice without knowing more about your current skill set and your desired writing topics.
