Protests are fine, but... Violence is never warranted. Destruction of property is never warranted. Advocating violence is never warranted, Deliberately inconveniencing people who don't care only makes you look like an *sshol*. I was involved in protesting the first Scientology church (term used advisedly) in my capital way back when. I was also involved in protesting the building of a happy-clapper mega-church. I protested against religious people being allowed in schools. I protested against books being removed from public schools. All of these involved pickets and groups and chants and being abused by the police. ACAB. Of those 4 protests, only the last was successful. But the second-to-last, thanks to our protests, was modified hugely. So, protests... they make you feel good, but they achieve somewhere between nothing and very little. But it's still more effective than "liking" a Facebook post or clicking a change.org petition... |
