In 1983, it was Stephen King. I was young and got everything he'd published up till then from a second hand shop after reading Salem's Lot, and to this day get the paperbacks of new releases as soon as they become available.

In 1996 I read my first Heinlein. I got everything I could from second hand shops (not even close to all his stuff) and that was all I read for 3-4 months.
