That's pretty much my standard modus operandi. Read a book by author X, read a second to make sure the first wasn't a fluke, then start collecting. This has got me into the following authors:

Stephen King
Neil Gaiman
Iain Banks
Irvine Welsh
Terry Pratchett
Neal Stephenson
and, when I was a kid, Isaac Asimov
