October Novel Prep Challenge

Hi, I will try to put it in a nutshell. The wife of my Detective is a friend of the daughter of Sinclair Banks the one murdered. She went to the funeral, and while there, she was reported killed in a boating explosion. My detective and his partner are assigned to investigate the death of Sinclair Banks, but my detective receives a note stating that his wife's death was not an accident, but murder.

I think the note is my inciting incident.
