Honestly I just jot down a sentence or an idea. Like for me for chapter one for this story I wrote "Micah's first day at the station". Then I know it has to take place at the station and that Micah will be meeting everyone, but I'm not backed into a corner if Micah decides he doesn't want to talk about something.
