Top of my list would have to be the cellphone. I hate them. For years I went without one and, even now, the one I have was Andrea's for a long time before it was handed to me when she got something better. I still don't really know how to use it. With a bit of refresher teaching from Andrea, I can just about make a phone call but, if it rings, I haven't the faintest how to answer it. Which doesn't bother me since I've always thought that the best way to teach phones not to be so rude as to interrupt me is to ignore them. It does have some crappy games on it but I find them stupid and pointless. So why do I give it desk room? The truth is, I use it to check on the weather late at night when everyone else is asleep. My computer could do a better job of that but I have to give the darn phone an excuse for existence. You wanna speak to me? Use email. Or, if you promise to keep it short, I might answer a message on Facebook messenger. There was a time when I had a cellphone that I used. That was back in the days of the old Nokia phone, chunky, compact and only really capable of phonecalls. And I preferred using it to text with anyway. Became quite good at using the numbers to type on. They tell me that everyone has a smartphone these days. I've even seen videos of tribesmen in Africa with smartphones. Well, guess what. Without me, it's not everyone. |
