As I've headed into my late fifties, my sleep patterns are all over the place. I generally need to shut down sometime during the day, even if it's only for half-an-hour. Then I'll often be on here at 3am as I'm wide awake and unable to get back to sleep. I've all but removed caffeine from my diet, and it's made absolutely no difference.
It's one of the big annoyances of getting old, just edging out the body hair issue. Why do I need hairy ears, knuckles and toes? What possible purpose does it serve? It reminds me of something the comedian Billy Connolly once said:
"I used to trim my nose hair something like once every 30 years - now it's twice a month. They say the body knows what it's doing - I can't help but wonder what's waiting for me in later life that I'm going to need extra-long nose hair to deal with it."
