The scariest thing that ever happened to me concerned my daughter when she was about 10 years old. She had been having headaches, so our GP sent her for scans of her head. The day before Thanksgiving, we were told she had a brain tumor. We had to wait all through the Thanksgiving weekend until her doctor's visit to a renowned children's hospital in our city. We tried to act cool around her, but some kids are very intuitive. I remember her asking me, "Am I going to die?"
After the pediatric neurologist reviewed the scans and talked to us, he was incensed. "Who told you she had a brain tumor?" he asked. We told him the general practitioner let us know. He replied that she did NOT have a tumor but only a thickened area of tissue. He couldn't believe we had been put through that ordeal. His last words to us were, "Your daughter is just fine. You don't ever have to worry about this again."
