That everyone is still alive and the world hadn't ended because of a new ice age, overpopulation, fossil fuels running out (several times), the ozone gap, all the food having been eaten (even more times than the oil being exhausted), the oceans having risen to cover most of the world's cities, all the silver, gold and copper being mined out, no forests left standing, World War Three, thermonuclear warfare and nuclear power, invasion by little green men, and the predictions of a thousand unlikely prophets. There is no way Rip van Seventies would believe that there is less poverty and starvation in the world today than ever before, that we are all, everywhere, richer than we were back then, and that we still believe every latest half-baked theory on the end of the world that any idiot presents us with. On second thoughts, nothing has changed, has it? |
